My secret weapon in life has to be my dear wife Carla. We have been married for over 22 years. She's an amazing woman, not just because she chose me as her husband (maybe in spite of it) but because she is an exceptional woman.
Not only does she help me to run our photography business, she is also my partner in raising and homeschooling our children! Carla is also in the last year of earning her masters degree.
Carla takes great care of everybody in the Carter household, and beyond. I love her dearly! ❤️
But anyone who knows Carla knows she doesn't really like to get in front of my (or anyone else's) camera!!!
But just look at her in these photos! You would never know that she fiercely resists being photographed. I don't blame her for feeling that way, because I feel the same way!
However, when it comes to photography my secret weapon is that God blessed me with the ability to help people feel comfortable when they get in front of my camera. Again, just look at Carla, just spinning and twirling around!
I never ask my clients to pose. I've learned that people make much better images when they're being themselves, not when they pose! They also have a lot more fun!
Just look at Cala! She isn't posing at all she's having a ball enjoying that dress. My job was to capture her joy! My job was to capture her passion. I think that I was able to do just that.
If you are, or want to be, a portrait photographer; I would advise you to put just as much emphasis on the human side of photography as you do on the technical side. I guarantee that both you and your clients will be rewarded! Live your vision!
